What’s in store for 2018 decor trends?

Anyone interested in or working with interior design know that this is the time of year when the trend gurus announce the next “big thing” in interior design for the coming year. It’s very exciting to see which home decorating trends are out and which seems to never go out of style. This does not mean that one should go crazy and start redecorating the entire house specifically according to interior design trends for 2018; adding just a few carefully selected décor items or a new wall color or wallpaper can bring your home “up to date”.

We have summarized what we have found to be useful and fun information from different sources and also included some pictures and links to décor items that we hope could be of inspiration.

Enjoy!

1. Warm Color Palette

This year we continue to move towards more color in our homes in general. But it’s the warmer color palette with lots of warm reds, yellows, beiges, greys and greens. Pink is still hanging around this year but is accompanied by violet which was picked by Pantone as the color of 2018.

2. Use of natural materials

We love that natural and sustainable materials play a lead role on the interior design stage. We continue to see lots of different woods, stones, and metals. Woven baskets, trays and framed natural elements are used to add warmth and texture. Leather has played a big part in home decor the last year and keep doing so. We continue to see lots of leather handles, hooks and leather details in furniture.

3. Velvet is still going strong

Velvet had a huge comeback this past year and this year we are still fortunate to have this cozy textile around for awhile longer. Velvet brings a warmth and a romantic touch to any style and can easily be incorporated in most room decors. We will see velvet in pillows, furnishings and poufs.

5. Add your own unique touch, no more mainstream

Now more than ever is there a longing for a uniqueness to one’s home in regard to interior design. To have that individual touch that show your personality through your home décor is a huge trend this year. This is achieved by adding interesting sculptural objects with a unique feel and shape, wall art, plants and personal objects and accessories are all part of making a home feel like a home but should also represent the home owner’s personality and life journey.

7. Statement Plants

Greenery brings serenity to any room but can also serve a dual purpose as a decor statement. Large plants continue to be key in interior design trends for 2018. Adding a large interesting basket or ceramic pot will lift the plant even more and can be a discussion point when friends come over.
