Early spring we finished the design of a girl's bedroom in the South Florida home of one of our clients. We are excited to share the project along with ideas for girly bedroom décor!
We love working with families to make their homes prettier and more functional. Before we started this project, the family took a Florida “sunroom” and turned it into a sweet bedroom for their daughter. If you are not familiar with a typical South Florida home, a sunroom is almost instead of an enclosed porch. It is a staple in older South Florida homes and can be a lovely spot, but usually very sunny. Just like the name suggests, a sunroom will often have wall to wall windows and tons of natural light. Our task was to find furniture and accessories to make it into a sweet and calm retreat for a girly girl. Since she is sixteen, girly bedroom décor was a must, but we also wanted her to have pieces that can last her well beyond her teenage years. Lots of girl bedroom designs involve tons of pink and ruffles, but we wanted to steer the design concept into a sophisticated palette and grown up pink. We looked at tons of magazines for more mature girl bedroom designs and teenage girl bedroom ideas. We presented the concept to the family and convinced them that a mature sophisticated room could still feel young, fresh and girly.
First we needed a tall headboard that would anchor the room. The soft bed was important for reading and relaxing but also needed to provide some extra privacy due to the two large window walls. Together we agreed the bed would be the starting point. The clients found this headboard and fell in love with the beautiful grey fabric.
Second, we needed to add desk that could multitask for studying as well as makeup. We love this white desk. It is both classic and feminine. Then we found this cool velvet chair and it was the perfect version of pink. The mirror is a fun and feminine piece that balances out the hard angles of the desk.
The rug ads softness and sophistication and a little twist on girly bedroom décor.
The family already had a small bedside table they would like to reuse. We repurposed it with white paint and new hardware. The sleek lamp has legs that are similar to those of the chair and brings a modern element to the room.
We tied everything together with lots of textiles and gave her lots of options for throw pillows. Mixing fabrics, patterns and materials makes the room warm and gives it that collected feel. This was such a fun project to work on and our clients were so happy to have this beautiful space for their daughter. Girl bedroom designs do not have to be all pink, but we love touches of pink here and there. We look forward to working on more girl bedroom designs – luckily one of our next projects will be another nursery!!
